We had a magnum of Caymus Cab 2003 with a wonderful herb-encrusted beef tenderloin (4 lbs!)... I am really diggin' the cookin' deal with a great wine. I even played soux chef with all the fresh herbs used to season that beef...dad came over with his digital mastery and recorded the event in pixels while I stood around with dirty hands and did the real work.
seasonal felicitations to all.

Wine from Oregon? I never even knew such a thing existed. Over here we only get some utterly boring mass-produced wines from California from the States, although well-made, I admit. And a Pinot Noir to boot- it is not too often one sees that outside of Europe...I think it will be a tasty evening.

Jaap: Oregon is the leader in pinot noir in the new world. California is coming on strong, and the Niagara Peninsula (southern Ontario and western New York) and Prince Edward County are up-and-coming.
Mine was Hillebrand Estates 2003 Showcase Cabernet Sauvignon (unfiltered), Angel's Gate 2002 Cabernet with standing rib roast; Hillebrand Estates 2003 Late Harvest Vidal with dessert.

I had a Malbec, a Riesling (that wasn't my pick) and some Pineau des Charentes (not a wine, but a "cognac blend" -- yum yum)

Oregon really has some outstanding wineries. It's interesting to watch as more people discover Oregon wines, and the pleasant reactions that result.
Right now I'm enjoying a Leinekugel Brewing Co. Apple Spice beer. I don't normally like fruity beers that much, but this is not bad. A nice seasonal beer...seems to combine the best qualities of cider and beer. Nice indie brewing company if you have the opportunity to pick up some of their stuff.

An excellent New Zealand sauvignon blanc and a great Spanish riojas. I can't remember the wineries but I enjoyed them tremendously.
