Can someone help me find a photo?

It's black and white, either a self portrait or
A portrait of a ugly holding a camera to his eye

It's from the sixties I think,iconic
The camera was held vertically if I remember and had
An external viewfinder, the subject was dressed in black

I can see in my mind but don't remember the photographers name

Thanks

This shot was taken by Feninger in 1951 for Life Magazine. The photographer pictured is Dennis Stock, who took the iconic photo of James Dean in 1955 in Times Square. Look up Feninger and Stock on Wikipedia and you'll find plenty more information about both.

No, it's a self portrait not dennis Stock. It can be found along with others shot at seemingly the same time at Andreas Feinenger self portrait if you do a google search.the link beneath the pic.

Wikipedia gives the Dennis Stock explanation but I don't know that I believe either of these. It looks like a female face to me, on the part that can be seen. The shape of the lips and the skin texture points it that way for me.

Also, I remember seeing it in one of the British photo magazines, sometime in the 'sixties, with a caption naming the model, who I think was a woman.

It would be interesting if we could tie this one down.

Well, the Time/Life web site's spotlight on Feininger indicates that this is Feininger's photo of Stock, not a self-portrait. Other than Feininger himself, I would take their word over anyone else's...
Stock was only about 23 at the time, so could have had a youthful-looking face, but as farlymac stated, there's definitely some peach-fuzz on the upper lip there.
