Any ideas as to what a good price is for this lens?

I've checked the bay, GoKevinCameras has 5 of them with the cheapest being $400, the next ones $450, $490, $510, and $645.

All of which he claims has very faint haze, some come with hoods and caps and some do not.

What's the deal here?

This often sell on ebay for $300-325. It pays to be patient, there can be a number of auctions for these which end near $400 then $300 will be the winning bid on the next few.

Captain still has one for sale, he just doesn't offer it for sale yet cause he doesn't have a rear cap for it. There is a hood with it. You may be able to make an offer before he gets a cap.

My one was ~300$ with original hood, front cap and rear cap. Problem is to find a protecting filter in the size series 5.5 (fits into the hood) or 39x0.75 (screw-in), I was outbid at the bay at a price of 39$ ... 🙁

hmm yeah I tried Doug's 40 rokkor M a couple of days ago he's got some issues with a small plateau on the focus cam at the closest focus on his M5 saying it makes the rf patch go retrograde, tried it on my M6 and it didn't do it. I've seen in pics that the rokkors have that weird plateau while the cron-c does not. Are they identical, the rokkor and the cron-c? Because Doug told me he got his off of KEH for $175, in ugly condition, didn't look all the ugly to me though, clean and clear, smooth and fast.
