What's the story behind your avatar?

mine is just a self-portrait ....with Sony headphones on. I love music. I play the piano, guitar and sing. Not stopping there either!

Picture of me taken in a cafe with my camera by a friend. The shot is not in focus but at this size, it doesn't matter.

I am proud of this particular shot: I had to get that swing going really fast to get that shot with my Canon 7! Focussed on the prior cycle and then fired the next time around.

And of course I am proud of Nikki. This shot was taken not too long after major surgery. She had 3 major surgeries in 18 months, a total colectomy followed by a "pull-through". So in this shot, she rode that swing for almost an hour.

that's quite a story. Thanks for sharing, Brian.

This is the street cat I accidentally found one afternoon while walking through a park testing a Ricoh 35 ZF. The pic is a severe crop but at that size it doesn't matter...

Curious thing is I pretty much ignored cats before joining this forum, now I always try to at least exchange a bit words with them...

The picture is of me holding a Petri rangefinder just like the one I bought when I was 13. (I love eBay!) I saved up my money from a summer job and bought it at the Base Exchange in Tachikawa Air Force Base, Japan, in 1958. It was kind of like the camera my Grandather had -- a Leica IIIc. I have that Leica now but it needs new shutter curtains and a CLA which I don't have the funds for, yet. But taking the Leica down off the shelf a couple of years ago (only to discover the bad shutter curtain) reminded me what a wonderful camera it was to use which led me to Cameraquest and eventually to get some rangefinders my budget would allow -- FED 2s -- that reminded most of using the Leica. Which led me to this site and it's been a rapid slide downhill ever since.

Well, I always wanted a dog, but when I moved away from my parent's home when I was 25 it wouldn't mix well with my lifestyle. So, this little tabby became my canine friend until I could be a more responsible pet owner.

This is a photo of me taken way back in the late '60's. I'm considerably taller now and have added about 150lbs.
This is the only evidence my Mother has to back up her story that people said I looked like the baby Jesus when I was a child. My mom loves telling that story and my wife loves hearing it. Personally I don't see the resemblance.

(this is a cut and paste from the other thread about this exact same thing. odd to have different but identical threads going.)

I envy all the cat avatars. If I got lucky this morning, I may have a cat avatar of my own. I had one at one time but felt I was cheating because my daughter took it. Also it was kind of scary, an extreme close-up of our cat's face. I seem to be still looking for the perfect avatar..

Just a cropped portion of one of my favorite childhood pictures. My Dad sent this to me last fall; the portion cropped for my avatar is my cousin Jimmy on the left and I am on the right, about age four.

Mine is me drunk on Russian vodka on a new year's eve party - I think it was 2002/2003; a friend had made a trip on the Transsiberian Railway, and brought back plenty of souvenirs, like the beret I'm wearing; he made a slide-show of his pics at that party, and had the room decorated with all kinds of ex-USSR stuff; I brought my Iskra and Zorki 6 for the occasion, but my avatar-pic was taken by a friend with his digi-cam...

PS: I'm a cat-person, even had a cat-picture published in a Hungarian women's mag once, thought about using that pic for an avatar, but can't find it to scan it...

Mine shows me at a fotocompetition. I lay in front of a fountain and tried to shoot the water.
It was taken by my "creative assistant" with my digitial polaroid :)

Mine is just a portrait of me, only when I was about 4 or 5 years old. Here is a more recent one done on a flat bed scanner. I may swap the existing one with the new one.

Mine was made on B/W infrared film, and must be viewed through infrared goggles, to be seen. I'm hiding from the Lil Red Spy...

Mine, a kind of geometric composition I made with my Contax G1 and my then new 35mm Planar lens. I just like it...

Otherwise, my avatar would be another cat! :)

hmm, why do we have two of this thread? You guys confused me for a while, until i've noticed Frank's link.

Thanks for the explanation, Socke! I had guessed it was you rock-climbing on a cliff, looking down...
