Hello all!
What is your favorite 28mm on the RD1?
I figure it's time to see what the fuss is all about, reccomend me a good 28 to start with.
I'm thinking 28/1.9 Ultron, anyone use this one (on the RD)
Or the M-Rokkor 28/2.8, opinions?
Why 28? I really like the idea of a 42mm equiv.
I would be shooting mostly inside, available light. (Bars, Pubs) The ultron is very tempting at f1.9, but for less, the cult fav. m-Rokkor is a real competitor. Unfortunately I do not have the funds for any Elmar/Elmarits, or even ZM lenses. So let's keep those reccomendations in the sub-700$ range.
Thanks!

i had the ultron before and it's a perfect mate for the rd1 since i enjoy the 40mm view. i think with the hood it's blocking the vf a bit.
rendering wise, wide open it loses a bit of a contrast which might be a good thing and can be easily added in post-process. plus the lens is easy to focus. go for it, they go < 450/500 range. the 28/2 vc is smaller and might be another good choice.

since 1600 is the top iso, i recommend a 2.0 aperture--it will make a real difference in the type of work you want to do with it. so i think the choice is which cv 28 performs best, the 1.9 or 2.0. and i personally do find vf 'blockage' annoying and an interference with the 'experience'. yvmv, but worth thinking about.

Thanks for the replies!
I'm definitely leaning towards the 1.9 Ultron, they seem a tad cheaper. The photo's I've been looking over are really nice. It has been difficult finding just images made with this lens on the RD cameras.
As for VF blockage, not overly concerned. It never bugged me on my Leica's.

After a bit of shopping around for a Ultron 1.9, I stumbled upon a Elmarit-M 28mm V3 for around the same price.
Got the lens in the post Halloween afternoon, gorgeous, cant wait to use it.
Now to get a RD-1 body >.<
