The best camera is one that still works!
My GF's sister and her (sister's) daughter were in Brisbane on Monday to pick up their mum to head off back down south for a family funeral. Carol's mum (nickname 'Bloody Mary') lives not too far away in Brissy so we went down to catch up before they headed off in a hire car the next morning.
I took the little Fuji to get some family snaps and was surprised when Donna, the very photogenic blond on the right, mentioned that she really liked the X100 ... particularly the styling!
Well my little heart swelled I can tell you!
What is interesting is that she's a professional model and has spent a large part of her life having cameras pointed in her direction ... she noticed the unusual looks of the Fuji straight away which I found interesting.
ISO 1600 ... f2 ... aperture priority ... -1 EV ... converted from RAF to tif in Silky Pix then processed in ACDSee Pro 3

I'm an habitual black and white shooter John but I'm pretty impressed with the X100's rendering of colours.
There was no sharpening or noise reduction applied to this shot in post but the camera does tend to over expose a little in some situations, hence the -1 exposure compensation!

Nice photo!
I litterally just clicked 'buy' and then 'pay' on that big site for an X100. I sucumbed to the temptation. You might say that I 'sucame'.

I honestly think it's the best lens I've ever used. And I've got a contax G1, a Fuji GA645, and a Pentax with limited lenses. The Fuji however is just phenomenal... Now I know what all those Leica guys are swooning about...

Keith, that's a really wonderful photo of three lovely ladies. But somehow it just doesn't look natural. Where is the banding?
Actually, it is a nice photo. I just know they all want blowups.

Well ... I took about thirty pics that day and a third of them had the banding. Thankfully this was one shot that didn't!
I can live without the 'C41 One Hour' setting that camera had ... it's now also gone back to Fuji, to keep the last disaster company.

Hooked up with some Sydney multi millionaire who's about twenty years older than her ... it's a model thing, just like the twelve thousand dollar smile!

Wow. There's a lot of banding in those curtains.
Wait... never mind.

Hey Keith, at this sort of distance is the OVF still accurate for auto focusing or are you using the EVF?

That was OVF which is capable down to about a meter ... a couple of presses of the command dial puts you into macro mode and goes automatically to the EVF which lets you get as close as you want virtually.
With this shot I was sitting next to the subject and realised I was out of the range of the focus and quickly switched to macro for the shot ... it only took a second or so. I'm pretty impressed with how quickly and accurately the little Fuji focuses ... it's better than I was expecting.
Please excuse the banding!

how are you getting on with the manual focus?

I avoid it at all costs ... it makes me grind my teeth in frustration!
Alright for setting hyperfocal distances and the like I guess but as a camera function for actually focusing when taking a pic ... forget it!

Keith, I feel people may regret helping this camera arrive - that first photo might cost me a lot of money. I was telling a friend yesterday how I would hang on to my Hexar and TriX for another year... now I am wavering, damn you!
