I'm buying either a new M-E or used M9 as a Xmas present to self. The only trouble is, I really don't like the blue-grey finish of the M-E (looks better in real life but still naff), nor the dark grey of the "silver" M9. So I'm planning to send it to be repainted in the classic Leica chrome silver.

Anyone know a good place that is (a) safe and (b) does a great job?

Also, does silver repainted look okay? Or is it safer to go with black? Going for black paint is also an option, as it would make the cameras brass through faster, and I like the brassed black paint look of the M4.

go for a black M9, the hassle of repainting the brass top/bottom probably wouldn't be worth it. and for about $500 more on the price of an used M9 you can buy an used M9P in chrome...

There are no painters that will touch an M digital. I have painted an M8 in the past, but won't ever try another one. :)

Curiosity ... What is so difficult about the job?

Personally, I would either just buy an M-E or an M9/M9-P and use it, but I'm curious what makes refinishing one of these bodies a difficult task.

Now there's a thought. Used chrome M9P. Hmmmmm. I think my budget could stretch to that. Thanks!
