At some point I'm going to get a 50mm lens for my Leica IIf and I'm thinking of going Canon. Since I've seen the trials Joe has had finding 40mm filters and I've already got a bunch of 48mm filters for my Canonet, I was wondering what other Canon lenses (not just 50mm specifically) used this size filter?

The filter thread sizes are given on the Canon Camera Museum lens pages here http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/lens/f_lens.html

The Canon 50mm F1.4 blocks a lot of the viewfinder on my IIIf.
The Canon 50mm F1.5 does not.
I have ordered a bunch of 40mm filters from an Ebay seller in Hong Kong. I will follow up on how they do. The price was right, and the filters are made by Marumi.

You could also get a 48mm-49mm adapter and use regular 49mm filters and hoods which are readily available.
You can also get a 40mm Series VI adapter. That way a world of cheap lenses opens up to you. That is the route that I went for the Canon 50.

Brian: Did you mean "world of cheap filters" ?

I think he did.
I hadn't thought of that, Brian. Maybe I'll do that and look into the Canon 1.8 that seems to be so prevalent.
