Which cap is workable on Sonnar 50/1.5?

not drop in but screw-in filter size, the 40.5 mm. I think it's indeed 42 the snap-on cap size. What I did, bought a metal Jupiter 8 cap from a FSU ebay seller, for a few bucks. Together with a Jupiter 8 round (plastic) snap-on hood, 42mm.

Don't know if this is related to the private mail you tried to send (my inbox is now cleared out a bit, so feel free to re-send), but per the other posts, a 40.5mm screw-in or internal snap-in cap will work or a 42mm slip-on. If you decide to get a generic plastic/rubber slip-on cap (B&H, etc. sell them), you might also want to consider getting 1 in 41mm, as there is some variation in the diameter of the lens fronts & the caps themselves get worn & stretched out over time.

I just risked to buy this CZ Sonnar 50/1.5 LTM lens, which is on the road:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...1&from=R8&satitle=7612444200&category0=&fvi=1

Whether this is a real or fake one, I hope to purchase a front cap for it. May I know which diameter of front cap (original or cloned one) shall I get for this lens?

Thanks,
Eric

Thanks all. After contacting the seller, I am glad and appreciate that a protective cap has been put on the lens for the protection before shipment. What a great seller.

HI, Mr. Chan

Glad to receive your instruction on my sonnar cap issues. Yes, I sent a private letter to you yesterday, but your box was out of quota. And I tried again to PM you, but failed again. Since you are really an expert on sonnar lens with widely reading the related documents, so I ask this question here, which may be rude to the seller (If so, I apologize):

How many chance do you think my lens is a fake one?

It's hard to tell from the pictures in the eBay ad, but in my opinion (& it's only my opinion), there's a good chance yours is a fake. My reasons are: (1) the cosmetic condition looks too good; & (2) the aperture markings on the aperture ring appear to lack punctuation (e.g., f/2.8 appears as "28," not "2,8"). The best way to confirm authenticity would be to have the lens disassembled to see if 6 digits are engraved along the rim of the rear element--if genuine, they should match the last 6 digits of the serial # on the front rim. However, even then, you would only know that you had a genuine Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar optical unit, not that the barrel, etc. were from the Zeiss factory (could be a genuine Sonnar converted to LTM using a Jupiter barrel).

Thanks for the answer. I also noticed the 2nd issue before I gambled to buy it. But the most important is that I wish it would produce a good picture. Afterall, I am a user, not a collector. Waiting my trial shot.
