I am struggling among Luigi premium, Luigi basic, Luxcase, and Zhou case. Luigi premium is apparently the best but also too pricy, unless I can find a used one somewhere. The Luigi basic and the Zhou case appear to not fit the LCD area very well from the display photos. The Luigi basic also look much cheaper and with less consistent stitches. Luxcase looks like a nice fit but is not cheap either. I do not like the front look of the Leica original half case, so that one is out.
Can anybody share some experience, especially with the Luigi basic and the Zhou case? If anyone has a spare to get rid of, let me know as well.

I recently got an Artisan&Artist "half case" fro my M8. Very nice and well made. Good luck.

I got a used Luigi (premium, snap-off-back) on the bay for a good price, and it's a fine piece of workmanship to be sure, but I wouldn't in a million years pay $270 for it new. If buying new for an M8 with the acrylic screen, unless covered with a Best Screens Ever or Zagg clear protector, I would go for the Luigi basic because it has a protective flap. Otherwise I would get the cheapest possible, which I believe is the Zhou. A case, at least to me, is there for one reason only: to take the bumps and scrapes instead of the camera. Doesn't make much sense to me if I'm going to be afraid of scraping up the case because it was so expensive.

The Artisan&Artist case is of too little coverage IMHO. I am considering the Luigi basic but they really don't look that good in photo. Anyone tried one?

I had a Luigi half case on my RD-1 and it was very well crafted. I bought it on eBay for a very good price. The model I had was the type that completely covered the LCD so when out in the field I needed to remove the case to check the images.
My main use for a "half case" is to cover the bottom of the camera. I'm very capable of setting a camera down in some crap and not noticing it until I get ready to leave. So skimpy in size for me isn't much of a concern.

Anyone has experience with this case on ebay?

It is $129 including a very nice looking strap. Said to be fully hand made.
BTW: Thanks Burkey for your response. I am looking for a bit more coverage, I guess.

Tape it Up! Make It Black!
Back in the 1960's black cameras weren't common at all. Somebody discovered just how easy it was to cover the chrome on a Leica, Nikon, Canon, or even your Miranda! For less than three dollars you could make at least 50 black cameras and still have material left over. What was the secret stuff? Something you could buy at most any camera store at the time: 3M Scotch #235 Black Photo Tape 1/2 in. x 60 yds.
It used to be about three bucks a roll four decades back, but Freestyle still carries it and it's only $12.99, hardly keeping up with inflation. It's got a crepe texture on a matte black finish extra THICK masking tape. Cover all the chrome on your camera and even with daily pro use you should be good to go for six months or more. Put an extra layer along easily worn edges and the average amateur's camera would be good for life. You just might get away with telling people that you used to shoot for LIFE.
