at minimum distance? xp2, bessa r, drugstore processing, scanning:

canon 50/1.8, 250/3.5-4 (may be a tad of grip shake here):

I like the industar, sharp and nice tonality. The jupiter has bit of a 3d effect going on, though. Hard to tell about the canon, I think I like it better than the jupiter. It's cool you have three such different looks to choose from. One thing you might want to look into, I think your rangefinder might be out of adjustment, it's kind of hard to tell from here but your camera seems to be backfocusing about 7-8 inches. I noticed it first in your pictures of the birdbath earlier, the back edge of the birdbath was sharper than the center where I'd guess you were focusing. It doesn't seem like that shim thing that Brian does because the the canon did it too. Sorry to be a drag, but I thought you might want to check it out. Thank you for the pics, I can see you're having fun.

Don't know whether we're dealing with lens drawing, exposure or scanning issues. At face value -- looks to me like the Canon exhibits more definition, better highlight tonal separation.

The Canon is a bit low contrast whereas the J-8 is quite high contrast.
Due to scanning?

Actually, out of the three I prefer the Industar shot.

Btw: two out of three lenses are Commie lenses...

Cheers,
Uwe

aye, they are, uwe. but they were people, earning a wage, right? :)

y'all really think they're back-focused? my people shots seem to be sharp in the right places. now, it could be i was a tad inside the minimum focusing distance on the blossom ...

Depends on the look you're after. They're all good in their own way. The Industar definitely looks more contrasty to me.

It is hard to say from here, I thought it might be worth a look.
