Which lens is sharper?

Which lens do you think is sharper?

The Ultron 35mm/1.7 used on a Bessa R2 or the 45mm f/2.0 Carl Zeiss T* G Planar Autofocus Lens with a G2?

I'm having a difficult time deciding.

Deciding what? Do you intend to buy either the one or the other?

In that case, I'd not focus on sharpness which should be outstanding for both of them. I'd rather consider the system you already have and select a focal length that most expands your creative possibilities. Or if you want to buy lens+camera, I'd choose based on the 'feel' of the combination. What's easiest to carry, what's the most pleasant viewfinder to look through. Do you like manual focus more than the convenience of autofocus... etc.

They're probably both really sharp.

To put it another way, they are both better lenses than either you or I are photographers.

I've had both.

They are both great. the 45mm f/2 has a somewhat better build "feel." The Ultron 1.7 fell apart once on me, my G2's 45, NEVER.

Lens performance:
What Frank says, I agree. They are both better than I.

I have an Ultron, how did yours fell apart? Is there something Ultron owners should know about their lens to prevent what you experienced?

I plan on using my contax g2 and lens for creative full body glamour shots and love how sharp the 45 lens is..but I was thinking of trying the Bessa r2 and putting one of the ultron lens es on it and just needed some ideas. I want to enlarge the photos and wondered which one looked best at larger sizes.

Something in the front unscrewed when I twisted the lens cap, and the lens came apart in two pieces. I was holding it at the time, and the other half was screwed into my (shortlived) Leica IIIh, so there was no damage done, but if I remember right , the aperture ring, or another control was involved (it's been 3 years) and it took about 20 minutes to get it back together correctly. It did indeed work fine afterwards.

Frank: NO BEGGING.
