I use afterdark VBP354. It's very comfortable to the eyes. Sounds almost like an aftershave.

Afterdark+ on this computer, and Afterdark++Orange on three others that I use regularly. I like both.

I like the dark gray background and the white text. I remember a couple of years ago the folks over at the photo.net Leica forum were sneering at the "grayness" over here. Now that forum has just about died and this place is still going strong.

Now that I've found the Legacy skin, it doesn't matter too much, but...
If people like black as a branding thing, I would still suggest floating a panel of light background with dark text for the actual content. Let it swim in a sea of black, but give me dark text on a white backdrop for easy reading. Ever see a book printed with grey text on a black page? I didn't think so. Dark over light really is easier to read.

Actually, just switched. From default to blahblahblah Orange.
The Legacy one is awful. im(vh)o, of course.

I've got no issue with black as a design feature or black in a web site - Frank I'm sure your site will turn out well using black. I often like photos on a black background or black matte. But black as a background for a large amount of text (like RFF) = people straining to read.
So far the poll shows 59% of the respondents changing the color scheme and nearly 35% changing it to white - those are pretty big numbers considering that the change takes knowledge and effort, while the default, presumably, gets some boost by being the default.
I'm just glad I saw the post about changing the skin, which was news to me! And pretty obvious, now that I know where to click. Love to see a "Legacy++" though...Legacy's main benefit seems to be the reading of the text, as otherwise its pretty plain. That's enough fo rme though.

I see 35% for black on white, and 65% for white on black.

And a dark background saves energy too!

+1 for underexposing!
As to useability, it's contrast that's more important. White on dark grey is usually less tiring on the old eye than black on stark white.

Isn't it interesting how these statistics are easy to read as backing up either viewpoint? Both posts are "true!"

I use the Afterdark ++ Orange, which I like best on my screen except for the jumping links. Is there a skin with the ++ font-sizes but without the jumping links? They drive me nuts sometimes.
