anyone seen the white M8? i don't know what to think. very bright and expensive! the black plastic body protectors seems to detract from the overall theme. not for me.

One hates to be negative but I think Leitz could advertise this camera as

"The camera with no color - for people with no taste!"

I suppose I am just an old traditionalist - but if it aint black or chrome it aint a Leica. OK I know they have produced safari and special models from time to time but most of them look nuttier than ratcrap in a peanut factory. I really dont like them I am afraid. (Well you did ask.)

cheers P

I think the look would be more persuasive if they would use black dials and a black Leica dot, i.e., keep the camera strictly black and white.

The red Leica logo dot I find disturbing. For an exclusive color edition, the logo should have been in following with the white, or use the black dot instead.

How can anyone take this seriously? The Tom Wolfe/Ricardo Montalban Commemorative Edition? What a joke this company is.

How many of you guys have white iPods or white laptops? How many own a white car? Who says that cameras only have to be black or chrome? Leica tries a different color for the M series and folks are ready to kill the company. I don't get it.

Rather than mocking Leica and their new special edition M8, we should try and help them market it.
The target demographic for this new model is presumably rich, middle aged males whom have little to no interest in photography.
I propose a print ad depicting a young very attractive female holding the camera in the palm of her hand, positioned up towards the side of her chin. She’s wearing red lipstick and on the front side of the camera is a red lipstick kiss. She’s biting her lower lip and the tag line reads The new Leica M8 – now comes in white.

Lets hear your marketing idea.

"A photography experience as pure as the driven snow..."

"White: It's not just for cheap plastic electronics anymore."

"White: Because you'll fall for anything, you rich *******."

Well I think it would go very nicely with a white wedding dress.
But I can't understand why they did it to the M8 rather than the updated M8.2?
Could it be they thought the target market wouldn't know the difference?

I can't say anything about the white m8, the glare off it's white surface is giving me a headache and making me incapable of speaking!!!!
