I'm a bit new here.

I have a beautiful Black GT, but it has an erratic shutter or metering system. I need an overhaul. Mark hama will do it. How do I contact the G-Man?

careful as we have a new member that goes by gman and we have g'man aka greyhoundman and he is the fixer extraordinar.

I'm looking for the person who has been recommended here who will do fine guaranteed repairs on Yashica rangefinder cameras.

My black Gt seem only to have a minor shutter glitch and may need a POD replacement.

my e-mail is tefphoto@earthlink.net

I actually use these at paid weddings for b/w candids, and I need exposure consistency.

Thank you.

What's a "PM?"

Problem: shooting under the same lighting conditions, sometimes the shutter speed seems inconsistent....sometimes sounds slow and sometimes sounds faster. Exposures are not consistent. I'll run another roll through it and check it again.

PM = personal message. If you click on G'man name, you will get a menu which says "send a private message to greyhoundman" Click on that and you send a message just to him.

G'Man,

It clicks very loudly when I wind. I do not have a battery in it at this time and when the shutter is pressed the shutter speed is very slow, maybe 1/15th, but doesn't seem to be sticking. I'll contact you directly.

Jan,

My full name is Theodore Edwin Frederick and I go by Todd. I am 64 years old and am a retired teacher. I have been photographing weddings for over 16 years, now using digital. For fun I enjoy repairing and using antique cameras, primarily in B/W. My business webswite is: www.tefphoto.com My blog is: http://toddfrederickphoto.blogspot.com/ My gallery is: http://www.pbase.com/mrtoady

I'm not a fake or a troll. This forum was recommended to my by a friend as being very friendly, but I haven't been here too long.

Jan,

Now I understand why this is funny. I should have said, "It needs an overhaul," although that might not be a bad idea for me as well! (^O^)

Todd, Welcome to the forum (from a newbie). I don't think anyone was trying to give you a hard time - just having fun! So far as your initial post, it's a classic! The fact that someone would seek out this forum solely on the reputation of the g'man, while completely understandable, is still way cool :D ! He has, with out doubt, earned the acclaim that precedes him. Check out the rest of the place - I think you will like it!

Thank you. This forum was highly recommended. I just need to learn to navigate it.

I just bought a Lynx 5000 and a Lynx 14 from a friend, both in excellent condition, and they are very nice. Strange, I have a $1000 Leica M2 and and two $25 Lynxes, that I often use together!

The black GT is a beautiful camera but there is definitely something wrong with the shutter. I'd like to get it repaired.

I'm glad the other G'man responded, otherwise I might be forced to perform surgery on a Yashica!

I've developed a severe allergy to PNet! ;>) I only use the alternative camera and classic camera forums there now. I'm much happier here. Good interesting information, comments, and levity.

well it has been implied in the thread, but I need to formally pipe up. Greyhoundman does great work at a fair price. I say this having sent him three, count 'em three canonet's for CLA!

two thumbs way up, but ah....I would NOT suggest him to tune YOU up :D

Hey Todd,
You're a "weee" bit south, but we do have a Bay Area group here on RFF. It's under the regional groups forum.

I can second Greyhoundman's work. It is fantastic! I would be embarassed to tell you the junk camera I sent him. He sent me a wonderfully working Canonet 1.7. I love that thing! Thanks again Greyhoundman.

Todd, welcome to the forums. I think you will find it friendly as no other forum you have ever visited. That said, we do have a sense of humor too. :D I looked at your photographs. Very nice. What kind of antique cameras to you like? I guess you could say that most of us like antique cameras given that we all like rangefinders and not all of us can afford the latest and greatest. My personal favorite rangefinder is the Super Press 23. I also like my Canonet (thanks to G'man) and an Olympus SP. I also like old folders, with a preference for Weltas. It's not that I have a lot of cameras, but those are my likes. Many here as you probably have noted, like fixed lens rangefinders as well as FSU (Former Soviet Union) cameras.

If you check the Gallery, you will see a mix of many different types of cameras used, as well as different talents and likes and dislikes in styles of photography. In the threads, one long running thread is Cameras and Coffee where members have displayed new of favorite cameras, and preferences in coffee.

Again, welcome.

I'm mailing the GT to him Monday. I'll have to wait on sending me in for an overhaul. I can't afford the postage!

I have heard that he is great, but he should charge more! ;)
