I wondered if any of you know who took this fabulous portrait of Fred and Adele Astaire, linked in the NY times:

I believe media release type stuff like this generally falls into public domain. This will also make it more difficult to identify the original photographer.

It is a beautiful picture...but there's something a little off with the cropping. Too close to Astaire's head.

Of course, this is simply MHO.

I think the close crop adds intensity in this case, but that is just MY opinion. ;-)

Or James Abbe.

Yes, now that you mention it, James Abbe is more likely, I have seen shots he took of the Astair siblings in the twenties that are quite similar to this one.

I was thinking of the Seeberger brothers, but their work seems to be, more often, outdoors/active. Hurrell's work is typically much more rigid/composed/polished/iconic....
