why all the this vs that postings?

I guess I have not noticed. Usually I read the thread and can say "I have one of those!"

Or "I don't have one of those! I want one!" Kinda like a CANON P!

I really hadn't noticed at all, but anyone who thinks their slippers are even in the same orbit as mine is in for a serious verbal butt kicking. And I am wearing just the moose-skin Lands End slippers to do it.

You are all warned.

Pah, slippers and moccassins! What'll be next... flip-flops?!
I'll stick with the sandals I bought in India last year... roomy, soft, and keep my toes cool in summer. I'd post a shot of them if I hadn't been at work! 😛

"Hey, my slippers are more comfortable than yours"
........................................
Hell, my sheepskin Acorns are worn by the astronaunts. It just don't get any better. Especially with a glass of Irish whiskey to start the "warming" process 😀

not a critictism but a curiosity...lately there are a number of threads that, when condensed, seem to be about 'my camera vs yours'.

what's that all about?

This is nothing new. Many photographers are equipment geeks and I think quite a few would rather discuss the merits of this or that camera or lens rather than take pictures. An extreme example of this is the Leica Photography Forum on photo.net which is largely devoted to debates about equipment, which lens or body is better, etc. I think the fascination with gear is largely a male predilection. You see similar behavior when car nuts talk about their favorite automobiles, or audiophiles discuss speakers. Golfers are another example ... they love to talk about the merits of different clubs and golf balls.

What do you guys think? This post vs other "vs" posts. Which is better?

haha

You are right it is a gearhead thing and women seem largely unaffected by it. They just use whatever gets the job done and who cares what the label says. Bless them, it lets the males carry on with what is really important.

LOL I think you've dialed it. A friend is a hay farmer. I met him one morning at the cafe and apologized for interrupting his conversation. He said no problem; they were engaged in the same argument they've been having every morning for the last twenty years: rifle calibers and motor oil.

How many forum posters does it take to change a lightbulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs

5 to flame the spell checkers

3 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct

19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum

11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

Its what it is .. a Forum ...
