If I had to explain why do I shoot film and digital, picking just one word for each of them, I'd say I shoot film for PLEASURE and I shoot digital for SPEED (immediate results).

Some years ago, most of my shooting was for work, and I had forgotten, little by little, the huge pleasure film photography gives me... Then, other activities allowed me to stop shooting for money, and I don't need to use digital anymore, except for things that are to me less photographic, and very few times every year: a friend comes to visit my city and I digitally shoot a peculiar map to send it through the net... I see a nice pair of shoes and digitally shoot them to ask my mother in the other side of the world if she wants them, etc... But not even for family / friends I use digital anymore, because those cases with film are a lot more fun to me... And they feel the same! I've discovered they like to see the images days or weeks later too!

Which two words would you pick to explain your feelings or reasons?

Cheers,

Juan

film is like love
digital is like sex

Hmmm. How about:

film = sex
digital = food.

Sex, because you WANNA, and for the lasting memories. Food, because sometimes you just HAVE TO, and you can enjoy it, but only for a few minutes at a time. Then, you just feel bad about it.

RESULTS
( I get much better results from digital because of the ease of post processing.)

Strange... I feel nothing is easier than color negative... And it can be scanned and just as easily processed too once it's a digital image... And in the case of processing raw files, it takes lots of time in my experience... Not to start the unwanted discussion, though... Just thinking... I don't see the photographic world has in general much better results since digital sensors. I see more speed and more transformations / retouching...

Cheers,

Juan

Film, when not flying, because I like it and have fine cameras which use it.
Digital when flying, because it's easier to take on a plane and with a few memory cards I don't have to worry about running out of film in locations with which I am not familiar.
