I've mused about the possibility of owning a digital M for a long time ... I'm single with no dependants, I smoke minimally, I shop at Aldi, I don't go to restaurants, I drink very little, I wear my clothes until they are near falling off me and I'm now on the wrong side of sixty ... photography is my only real vice!

A few weeks ago a very good friend (several years younger than moi) who I've known for thirty odd years was diagnosed with terminal cancer and probably has a few months left at best ... did this shake me up a little? It sure did!

Need I say more? ... life's too short folks and you never know when your number's up. Will I like the 240, is it the right camera for me? .... who knows, but I'm not about to die wondering.

Great to hear your Indulging in your Passion/VICE !!
Very sad to hear about your friend ...:(

I very much like the color palatte of the M240... Quite pleasing and painterly
The black & white is yummy Good,
Fine detail coming thru the shadows and beautiful tonal range
It seems the M240 has again created 2 camps ...the Lovers and the put downers

'horosu' a member on flickr ( and here on RFf though a different name)
has BOTH the monochrom and the 240
I simply Adore his 240 photos and in particular the B&W to his monochrom work

Congrats !!!
Its a Fine score, Hope to acquire one...one day
Good for You !
Best- H

Great stuff. Look forward to the pictures!

Whats not to love? I recently lost a loved one, and taking photos was one of the few things that was a comfort to me. Sorry to hear about your friend.

Congrats. I gave the M240 some thought. Not a polished enough product for me, but I have faith in Leica that they will get it right with one more try.

Then again - I shoot on demand. If I were independently wealthy and didn't need to make money from photography, I would have already bought one.

Next Tuesday morning I'll be jumping in my car and heading west to wherever ... Longreach, Barcaldine, Blackall, Cunamulla ... all places I've wanted to see for a long time.

I'll have the 240 and four M mount lenses ... 15mm, 25mm 35mm and 50mm and nothing else photographically. Two weeks holiday and little to do except look, take photographs and get to know the digital M and also get to know Australia and the people who choose to live in these dryer more remote parts of this amazing country. :)

Get your camera and your friend and get out there and do something together. Do it as often as you and he can. If you do document it depends of course if you both are comfortable with it in this particular situation. Life is too short, don't wait for something to enjoy it.
All the best to you and your friend.

Eh and yeah, I forgot ... what's for dinner, where and when ? ;)

Keith, how does the 240 compare to your sigmas?

I think I've seen enough from the 240 to make me think it matches the IQ of the little Sigmas ... which I'll probably now sell.

There has been a bit of call from rangefinders for me of late ... It's why I came here (RFF) after all! :)

Heart and all best wishes goes out to your friend, Keith.
In some way his story and the story of how you got your M240 are now intertwined... it's very powerful to think that the story of an expensive item like that (and the art you will make with it) is somehow touched by another kind of story separate from all the marketing hype that Leica and these companies promote, a story of friendship and of life, even in these circumstances, and of what's actually important...
So I can't wait to see your images Keith, and my heart and best wishes go out to your friend.
