Is the Leica M-P not AKA M11 and M60 AKA M12?
(And ME not AKA M9-1/2 btw.?)

Because they should have been called D1, D2, D3... etc, M Leicas should have remained film only.

Maybe, in a way, M stands for Messsucher, so having a rangefinder viewfinder there is no difference between film and digital Ms, and they both use an M mount...
Maybe they should have differentiated by having an F-M and a D-M, but I should think the LCD will suffice
. Nor does the capturing medium make much differencence in the functioning of the camers.

OK, lets have some fun with this.
The answer is actually there in plain sight in your own words. Just go back and read carefully without reading anything into your question.
You might see the answer sooner if you revisit your original question (before editing), which if I recall correctly was something like
"If the M240 is AKA the M10, why is the Leica M-P not AKA M11 and M60 AKA M12?
You know Leica history fairly well, what is the answer to your question?
(OK, you might not want to play the game, but it seemed too easy just to answer you without having some fun with it)
Honestly, I stopped caring when they announced it the "M". My intelligence (whatever it is) didn't accept to be insulted that way. It is an insult to my consumer personae.
As to why they didn't go M10, M11, M12... the answer is simple: They'd be at M27 in 3 years time. But there must be a better naming scheme then their "Tip" bs.

How did they miss Mx or M-X? Way cooler than M.

I want the 5-letter codes back! Then I can oder a MOOBO to sit on my M240. Or is the HUHMA I want instead? Ah heck, bring on the 5-digit numbering system...

I prefer my original question... And do not quite see why you had to edit it. If I did that on one of the forums I moderate all hell would break loose.
My point was not discussing Leica's naming convention and I won't in this thread -surely a parent has a right to name his child- but the strange phenomena that a few people on this planet persist in mislabeling the M (Typ 240), and not other M cameras.

As far as I am concerned Leica ceased to make cameras after the M5, so it doesn't matter what they are called....

Yes, I find that quite astonishing.

Yes, that is what one gets from editing a post to suit one's own agenda. That was not my question. "Posted by Jaapv" in the quote is misleading. That is the Head Bartender's version.

Do you see me doing that on LUF and getting away with it, Ian?

my guess is that M-P, M60 are not "aka" because they differ so little from M10.

In that case the forum should list them as M10-P AKA and M10-60 AKA....
See M4-2 , M4-P, M6-J, etc.

Because someone disagrees with Leica's naming and won't accept it.
