As is the case with other states in the western U.S., Montana has been a tinderbox this year. We have had several fires in the surrounding rangeland that were quickly contained (approximately 1000 acres in size), but in the back of my mind I knew that we would inevitably be confronted with forest fires. These photos were taken last night about four miles south of town. Structures have been lost and friends have been evacuated. I was hiking in this area with the family just last weekend.

Same thing happened during our holiday in France - lots of evacuations. Don't have pictures of the fire with me, but I do of those who took care of it...
