OK, as promised.
Will the Nikon users of this forum buy/order the new Zeiss Sonnar 5cm f1.5?

I made the results private,so don't be scared of voting but the poll expires in 30 days...just in time for orders.

EDIT: Darn it, I can't edit the Poll! can one of the Moderators fix my error on the third choice?

I think the question should be how many people would buy a new M-mount
Nikkor 50/1.4, possibly to use it on their Zeiss Ikon ... more constructive :)

I must admit to being glad I'm broke - a S2 & the ZS Sonnar would do great damage to my bank account if I could ... ;) But really I'd rather see a LTM Sonnar. That would be yummy.

I would spend my money on a better Nikkor 50mm f1.4 or a 35mm f1.8. After using a Bessa R2 for most of the year and falling in love with shooting with a rangefinder, I am looking to upgrade to a Nikon RF.

Yep, just like that!! Can you get a 35mm f1.8 to go with? And will you take an Bessa R2 kit in trade?;)

I tried twice to love a Bessa R2S ... I couldn't do it :bang: So I'll stick to Nikons

It would depend on two factors for me....one of which may be a stupid question.

How well would one work on a Kiev? If it would work fine I would be inclined to get one if the price is under $500.

No,I won't be buying one.
The 50 mm focal length is one I haven't used in twenty years on an SLR, and I can find no reason to use it on a rangefinder either. It is neither wide enough nor long enough for the images I shoot.

I wasn't a big fan of the 50mm focal length until I started shooting with a Millenium 50. Its sharp with little loss of contrast wide open and can be shot into bright lights or the sun with little or no risk of flare. No SLR 50mm lens I've used comes close to it at f1.4 - f2. If the new Sonnar offering is anywhere near as good as the Millenium 50, it will be a fine lens, athough I hope it has a different signature. After reading about the front focus issue, it certainly sounds like it will have a different signature.

You know, I don't have an S series... but this is a lens in M that just weirds me out a lot. The shifting focus plane... just doesn't fit my style of photography. Though I have really thought about an older Nikor or Zeiss. More frequesntly than my wife would probably like:)

The 5cm focal lenght is just perfect!!! One HAS to learn to appreciate it though....otherwise IT IS USELESS.

better lens??? interesting statement - can you please tell us what lenses are those.
Well I guess if used on a Kiev, or Contax for that matter, any Jupiter-3 has an easy job beating the new C-Sonnar, simply because there are no problems in close focus wide open.

No, I would not order a new Zeiss C-Sonnar in S mount. Reasons include that the 50mm focal length is one that I don't relate to especially well, and also because I recently purchased a 50mm millenium nikkor. One expensive lens in a focal length that I don't use a lot anyway is enough.

Oh to dream.............
