With Polaroid Film going away...

has anyone considered digital proofing in the same way we used to use Polaroid proofs? I haven't done it yet, but do have a Panasonic LX-2 that I'm considering using with my Rollei SL66 system. I shoot mostly TMAX 100 and EFKE 25. The ISO range on the LX2 is 100 to 1600. I'll be going out tomorrow to give it a shot. What are your thoughts?
 
I've been using my D100 as a proofer/scene-meter for a few years now. Polariod's disappearance is merely a formality, I haven't been able to afford it for test shots for a decade and a half. I am sorry to see it go though, so I got a few boxes of type 57 so I could do some Crown Graphic street photography! ;)
 
Thanks, Chris! I have an old B&J Press that I used to use with Type 55, but my SL66 uses packfilm. I tried Fuji FP100, but had problems with ripping tabs and jammed film. Do you find the D100 kind of bulky. I was thinking of the LX2 because of its size. It fits in my pocket. We'll see how it works tomorrow.
 
I think about doing this all the time, but somehow I always find myself reluctant to take two cameras and take two shots of the same scene.

Jani, I'm familiar this story, but integral film is not of interest to me, although I do appreciate your willingness to share this. The price of all polaroid film has been steadily rising, and for me it is no longer cost-effective to use it as a proofing tool. Thanks for your willingness to share this.

Are you still proofing with polaroids? Fuji packfilms seem to be a slightly different animal, at least with my old polaroid back. Medium format still provides output I prefer over digital, but then again, I do not own any digitals in the 15 MGP and over category to compare output with.
 
if anyone's still shooting proofs on instant films, they're insane. i don't like shooting digital, but for proofing purposes it makes the most sense. you can use a cheap p&s to give you an idea of exposure, your film will pick up the extra latitude that the digital sensor can't handle. if you're still unsure, just bracket. after all, if you have time to proof the scene, then you have time to bracket. i shoot polaroids, but i treat them as their own medium, not a throw away test exposure. they're way too cool and expensive to be trashing right after you take them.
 
Like others above, I stopped proofing with Polaroid some time ago and switched to digital. Fortunately I was able to sell my 545i Pro film holder at a time when it was still worth something.

No, I've never proofed with Polaroids. Just thought about doing it with a digi-p&s. For medium format and larger it's probably a good idea. One does not tend to shoot and run with those kinds of cameras.
