With the Pope having declared his resignation...

I wish I had time to scan some of my Vatican Kodachromes from 1983.

It is an historic precedent. I think it is a good thing. Interesting protocol implications. History unfolding before us.

2x Guadalupe Passion play, plus kitchen of Mision La Purisima

Of course a pope has resigned before: Gregory XII, 1417.

Edit: I think (it's a long time ago) that the first two are Fuji RF/RFP, an infinitely better film than Velvia, with either a 35 Summilux or a 21 Biogon for the Christ, a 90 Summicron for the girls, and maybe a 21 Biogon for the kitchen (film forgotten). The kirchem shot might not even be Leica: over the years I shot it with various cameras (Nikon F, Nikkormat, Leica) and lenses (Leica, Zeiss, Tamron, Sigma).

Cheers,

R.

This woman could be a Catholic praying to the Blessed Virgin Mary in a church built in 1810 and consecrated by the Archbishop of Havana.

Or, the woman could be Santeria invoking the good will of the spirit Yemayá which is represented as the Virgin of Regla. Santeria, an Afro-Cuban religion, has always physically depicted its orishas or spirits as Catholic saints to appease the early missionaries.

This church in Regla, just across the harbor from downtown Havana, serves both religions simultaneously. One never knows the religious beliefs of other visitors. Then one realizes that it makes no difference.

Well, I didn't expect he'd resign ... but then, when he was Cardinal Ratzinger he did run the inquisition ... and nobody expected that!

Off topic but I wonder what his retirement package looks like....

Where was photography at 600 years ago or so when a Pope resigned the last time? They certainly didn't use plastic reels then.
