Would you trust to swap/lend a piece of equipment with a RFF member for a limited period of time... say 3 months. If the member was known, and in good standing? If that member would baby your equipment as they did theirs...
Just wondering. It would be a cool way to get the feel of different equipment.
As long as they didn't shoot a camel's eye ball (that's an inside joke that I'm sure only a few will get).

I barely trust myself with my gear.

No. Too complicated for me, I'd fuss and worry. Too many things could happen to screw the situation: loss, accidents, damage, theft, etc...

Yes I would - any of my cameras (Konica Auto S3, Mamiya 6, Tachihara 4x5). I would also love to get my hands on some cameras (Contax 645, Contax T3, Contax G2, Leica M2/3/4/6, Pentax 67, Xpan, Ricoh GXR, Hexar AF or even a 5x12" large format camera if I can be so bold)
I personally would prefer shorter period than 3 month as I personally do not need 3 month to try a roll or two in one camera
.
So if there is anybody out there in Germany around Muenster (NRW) or Frankfurt interested in lending, borrowing, or swapping for a few weeks I am all in.

There are plenty of people I'd trust, but the Post Office (or the courier companies) are not necessarily among them. I'm with thomasw on this: "Too many things could happen to screw the situation: loss, accidents, damage, theft, etc..."

Like Roger, many people I would trust, guess it would have to be local exchange, which in my isolated case is a problem.
Please dont take my earlier post to seriously !

For most of my gear, I would be with say no.
for some pieces that are easily replaceable, yes.
About trying other people gear, most of the things I would like to try are things I don't buy because I can't, so I would really fret to handle the expensive piece of someone else.
I ususally work in close cooperation with Murphy, so...

Dear Ron,
That's another point, really.
Expensive kit that I use all the time, or even that I need to have handy for the rare occasions I do use it, obviously I can't live without. Other stuff... Well, most of it's not worth much anyway. If I'm going to go to the hassle of loaning it, I might as well go to the slightly greater hassle of selling it. Then again, I've let people have stuff 'on approval', as a loan, on the understanding that if they want it, they can buy it. They've got to be pretty keen (and reasonably well known to me) before I'll do that, though.
Cheers,
R.

The best camera is one that still works!
Years ago I bought a brand new CB750 Honda. A good friend asked if he could take it for a quick ride to which I said ... "Sure, but if you bend it you own it!"
Two k's down the road he t-boned a car and wrote the bike off. Luckily, somehow he was unscathed. He wrote me out a cheque for the bike that day!

To be more specific I meant locally - no problem. The thing is, I know that here are only a few people shooting the cameras I have and they are very narrow minded, but I often give my cameras to students for their projects for example.
I doubt I have some desired equipment you guys would like to try, and the shipping fee would be the same as rent / buy one second hand.

There is a lesson to be learned - borrow only as much of gear as you can pay back if anything bad happens

Also: loan only what you can afford not to get back. (should something go wrong and the borrower couldn't pay for or replace it).

yes I do trust humans
I've loaned cameras and lenses to people I knew for a while, but only knew them online.
And I have trusted the post office a hundred times with my purchases so I dont see that as an issue.
