What a lens. Wow. I have always loved the look of the Hologon. So extreme. So exotic. So impossible to copy. Such a gorgeous piece of glass. Oh my, how I'd love to find a lens like that for my RF645.. . .
It looks so alien and delicious!

The original M-mount Hologon is a rare, pricey collectible. However, there's now a cottage industry of converting the Hologons made for Contax G into Leica M mount. I wonder which one this is...?

Well-known
that would appear to be a Contax G Hologon. The Leica Hologon was 15mm, and only 270 were made (or something like that).
I used to have a G Hologon, and it really was a beautiful lens (the lens itself, I mean... really cool looking). I never really used it much though, and eventually traded it in as I pared down my G kit...

Hologon
I never really thought the Hologon was a very practical lens even in it's day. It's certrainly sharp but it's f8 without the needed center silvered filter that drops it another stop ot two ( can't remember which). I think it came out in the early 70's when there wasn't any competition. Now we have great glass like the CV that's much more practical and has excellent performance.
The Leica version was a 15mm and came with the center filter. I believe the price was around $3,000 even back then and a few years ago I saw a couple for sale priced at $10,000 each. Zeiss also mounted the 15mm on a dedicated body and when Altman camera in Chicago was closing they were selling for under $500 with grip and center filter. I've also seen a cople of these in the past couple of years for much higher prices.
