WTB: Olympus RD

hey all...looking for an olympus RD in good working condition...

i was shooting an event this weekend and my Canonet crapped out on me and wouldn't advance the film...the gears would turn but film wasn't catching.....this is the 2nd canonet that has done it to me...i don't know if it's a function of the QL system or what, but I am definitely OVER Canonets....

I don't have a 35RD for sale, but most of them that haven't been used in a while will need to have their shutters serviced, which runs about a hundred bucks.

The RD was a later version of the RC, of which I had one until it was stolen. It was a dandy little camera, but by now would be some thirty or so years back in history (I bought my RC in about 1973). Look around on ebay or other sites and see if you can find a good, clean one. I don't think it would be worth the above-mentioned cost for servicing, though.

It might be just as well to consider an Olympus Stylus. They come in various zoom ranges, and for the cost of an RD plus servicing you could have a new Stylus. Of course, the Stylus is not a rangefinder, but an auto-everything point & shoot. However, I have a Stylus 120 and love it.

i've handled a stylus but not really interested in it....something about older cams, i suppose and the complete manual control...

so no one has an RD to part with?

The 35RD only borrows some its hardware, mainly the body, from the 35RC. It's shutter assembly and optics are totally different. I don't mind calling it a 35RC on steroids though.

Before the 35RD, I used an XA to grab photos of presentations done in our large, dimly lit lecture hall that is adjacent to my lab. This was before my recent switch to screw mount rangefinders, which are not as quiet.

Shooting wide open, the 35RD smokes the XA. Both were usuable without having to use a flash unit and they were quite. The only thing I didn't like was I had to sit in the first row to get the photos I wanted. The screw mount rangefinders with a CV 75/2.5 Heliar let me sit in the third or fourth row of the lecture hall.

Anyway, back to the 35RD. I have a spare, but it needs the shutter blades delubricated. What type of shooting are you going to do?

Same nasty thing happened to the QL17 that I have...twice... anyone have any idea why this happens?? Thanks
