I saw on the Argus Group (Yahoo) a message about making a C-3 into a pinhole camera, so I whipped one out real quick. I was not happy with the first pinhole, so two thirds of the way through the roll, I came home and made another. Going on the assumption that the original user's recommendation of times at 2 or 6 seconds meant 400 speed for 2sec, and 100 speed for 6 sec, I really messed up the photos.

I was right about the first pinhole being too large, as all I got was some serious bokeh, though the exposures were close. The second pinhole looked like everything was mostly in focus, but the photos were woefully underexposed.

So here are some examples from the roll, and the photos of how I made the pinholes.

A short pull-off area on SR-311 up the mountain from Catawba, VA is the location of this view.

Using a plastic jar lid, trace a circle a little smaller than the outer diameter of the lens mounting flange on a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil.

Mounting diameter marked.

Use some clear packing tape to stiffen the foil.

I used a dental pick to score the crosshairs for the center of the foil, then cut it out with some scissors.

I don't know what size this needle is, just that it was smaller than the push-pin I originally used. I pushed just enough of the tip through the foil for a small hole.

Next, trace a circle larger in diameter than the lens mounting flange in some painters tape, which has been applied to a plastic battery container (or whatever you have that you don't mind scoring). Gaffers tape would be excellent for this.

Then trace a circle smaller than the diameter of the lens mount on the tape. Smaller than this size would be better.

Here we have the mounting tape ready to be cut with an Exacto blade.

And the mounting tape is now ready to be mated to the foil.

I present to you...The PHArgus!

I plan on making a more sturdy foil mount later on.
