You folks who have an X100, have you tried many of the film simulation modes? I remember really enjoying these on my old Fuji P&S, more so than any other camera's jpeg filters, and I wonder if, on the X100, they actually do a decent job approximating what they're supposed to.

Great question. Which films are emulated? Just color or bw also?
Keith
The best camera is one that still works!
Just colour ... Provia, Velvia and Astia.
The rest are monochrome with various filter effects and sepia.

The X100 comes with emulations for the following Fuji slide films:
- Provia (standard)
- Velvia (vivid), and
- Astia (soft)
- Straight monochrome
- Monochrome w/ yellow filter
- Monochrome w/ red filter
- Monochrome w/ green filter
- Monochrome w/ sepia toning

May I ask whether you can do these in camera or can you do it outside with their supplied software?
Also, any sample. Can you really do velvia (50 not 100 I suppose). If so, why can we not Kodachrome? (Resolution aside.)

Oh how I wish they had a Neopan 400 and 1600 setting...maybe in a firmware update?

The conversions I described are done in-camera, and can either be used as configuration settings when shooting JPG files or be used when calling up the integrated RAW converter after the shooting session.May I ask whether you can do these in camera or can you do it outside with their supplied software?

Unfortunately, the only officially available RAW converter for installation on a computer is Silkypix (read about that in separate theads). The problem is, however, that the enclosed Silkypix software appears to have a serious quality problem.
So, you're left with in-camera conversion for now.
Fujifilm didn't specify which Velvia film it is emulating.
As for Kodachrome, why should Fujifilm generate an emulation for a film they never made? I think this is a classical task for someone who loves to tinker with RAW converter presets (if ACR or the like have been made X100 compatible).
Would be nice, but that's not available right now, and I don't know if it ever will be. If you want to do something like that, why not try Nik Silverefex Pro? Here's a tutorial about using SEP2. Scroll down to 'Preset Film Types' and click to enlarge the picture below. It contains a list of emulated BW films.Oh how I wish they had a Neopan 400 and 1600 setting...maybe in a firmware update?![]()

It would be really great if someone could post some comparisons of these film modes of the same scene. I might send beer.

Send the beer to Fuji - you'll find your examples in the X100 brochure - at least for the color films. It would be really great if someone could post some comparisons of these film modes of the same scene. I might send beer.
