... in birmingham during the annual sidewalk film festival. the theatre was built in 1927. x100, iso 3200 and provia settings. even at 3200, some handshake is a bit evident on inside shots

i think the results are very impressive. even 'passable' IQ at 3200 lets remember is a pretty big deal, and these are beyond 'passable.' i do think they would benefit greatly from WB PP adjustment.

all PP editing software has basic WB adjustment, usually in the form of some kind of pointer. just engage by clicking on it, move the pointer to a neutral color in the photo, like the light bulb for instance, or something else you know was white or grey, click and violla, new improved WB will totally change the look of the photo.

Paul--you didn't show the Wurlitzer console!
One of about 80 remaining theater organ installations, out of maybe 8000 total.
Very historic--and VERY rare. And it sounds great...
They did a great job with the Alabama restoration.
Thanks for the pix!
Paul

These are beautiful photos. The colors inside the theatre are to drool for. What sort of events or films are shown during this festival?

We have the sister theatre in Knoxville where I live. The Tennessee theatre was restored a few years ago and a good friend of mine plays the Wurlitzer theatre origin before movies.

Years ago I directed and produced a series of tv commercials for IMAX in the theatre. I got to go through the entire place including the pipe lofts and around the dome in the ceiling.

Love these old theatres.

Thanks for the Wurlitzer info, Paul.
Your pix are grand--the theater interior is really well done.
Back in the initial days of fundraising--Cecil used to ride kids up and down on the console elevator--just to get folks involved.
It was a great success...

Beautiful. One of my favorite holiday traditions is going out for a nice dinner and then to the Alabama to see "White Christmas", pretty much every December 23rd. Your pictures captured that magic well. Thanks!

thank you, all of you; you're all so kind.
the sidewalk film festival happens every august.
the theater also is used for occasionally for concerts and on many weekends, a vintage movie. sound of music, wings, and gone with the wind were recent offerings. it is the only theater in town that has a bar open. i do not recall if that is for every weekend movie. it sure was doing land office business during the festival ...

thank you, michael. the thing can seat something 2,500 people. the intricate plaster work really is remarkable. and to think it will be 100 years old in 15 years ...
