I have had the Xe-1 since last december now and loved it from the start for its form factor, size and weight, functionality and of course IQ. I have been a long time Canon user and the 5D2 is the latest I have. It has been used less and less lately though, so much so that I am considering selling off all the canon gear. I still use it for wildlife shooting, and until recently commercial stuff. I am fast realising that the Fuji is more than a match in terms of IQ, and the Fuji lenses are amazingly good. I have also been using a couple of old Lietz lenses with very pleasing results, especially the elmarit 90 and summicron 50.
I just did a series of indoor shots for a real estate brochure. My standard is the 5D2, but I thought - hell I will take the xe-1 as well. Once all the shots were done with the canon, I then repeated quickly with the xe-1. The results were not what I expected (or hoped for!) I ended up using more of the shots from the xe-1 than the canon. It is not that the canon is bad, but more of a credit to the fuji. Of course lens selection is key,and I was using a canon L (albeit the 17-40L), but the fuji 18/2 was better in every way except for when I needed widest possible of course. I even used a canon speedlite on the fuji.
The more I use this Fuji, the more I am amazed by its ability. It can do so much and I cant wait to see what is in the future for the x series. The lens line-up is fast growing and fuji are really listening to their customers. Focus peaking coming as an update in the next couple of weeks and likely a new pro body within the next year. I am really pleased I bought into Fuji when I was torn between Fuji and another (more expensive/exclusive) brand!
Here are a couple of samples from the last few months.
