Hi
I just bought some chemicals to process BW film at home, but now I discovered a big problem: My Xpan rolls up film so that no loose end sticks out of the canister. Thus one has to fish out the end. I saw some youtube videos of people doing this, but it seems tedious. So is there something wrong with my xpan, or are they made this way? I cant imagine Xpan users having to recover the loose end of the film for every roll?

This is normal. Xpan rolls the film all the way back.. Ive never had to fish the film out, I open the canister...... Bottle opener..
Unless you want to reuse them, they sell film retrievers if thats the case..

I just open the film canister with a can opener and go from there with just about every roll I develop. I know that some people enjoy having the lip at the end stick out for ease, but it's not necessary.

There is an option in the menu system where you can select for a full rewind or have the tip left out after the rewind. Something to do with the MODE button. Check the manual.

Only the XPan II has the option. Also, you do not want to pull out the film in any case since it may scratch the film - the XPan already makes the film go out and then in already, you don't want it to take a third trip.

Pop the end open with a beer opener and push on the other end and Voila! it pops right out. I actually have a made-for-the-job tool, but the beer opener works, too.
