Xpro-1 Blog from Petteri Sulonen

A very enjoyable and seemingly objective report of his findings so far, the best I´ve read not coming from Japan. :)

I just don´t understand why the Fins have it already while I still have to wait another 12 days from now, assuming there will be some stock when I visit my usual retailer... :bang:

Cannot wait to read his ongoing blog after his today´s shooting with it!
 
I always used to enjoy his blog, when it was up and running consistently. Good to see him back at it, and good to see such a nice review.
 
Just to complement Mr. Sulonen's review, here is a thread from a photographer who also uses Canon 1DmkIV and his comparison, especially regarding AF, shutter lag as well as IQ. In short he finds image quality and hi-ISO even better than the 1DmkIV however for AF and shutter lag:

"The X-Pro1 feels like a fast point and shoot camera." and " The X-Pro1 does one thing amazingly well, it makes jaw dropping, stunning pictures. Everything else does not match even entry level DSLR." Further details:

Yeah, I think I know what he means, but the economy of expression "everything else" inevitably perpetuates a DSLR-bias.

DSLRs, even top-of-the-line ones, fall flat on their face when it comes to things like providing a clear view at all apertures, providing eye-contact with subjects, providing viewing field outside the frame, or again those things that are related to the ergonomics and form factor of the XP1, like lightweight, compact size, aperture control on the lenses, hard buttons for key functions, etc...

I guess some people just get a rush out of generalizing.

More seriously I don't want an Xpro-1 to replace my Canon DSLR gear.

I want one to provide the different type of image making experience of using a 'rangefinder type' :eek: viewfinder.

What I appreciate abut Petteri's blog impressions of the camera is his perspective that takes the camera on the terms for which it was (apparently) designed to address.

That's my story and I'm stick'n to it.

I did read this one. But I'm just so tired of hearing about the camera. I want to see it myself.

As an aside - I loved the comment from one user who said: "I would sell my soul to have an AF Leica M9..."
It' s a funny reminder that no matter what a camera maker offers - someone out there wants something different.
 
I found the review very readable and understandable. I think he has done a very good job so far especially explaining what it is and isn't. One of the better reviews I have seen.
