My Yashica Electro 35 GS arrived today and its a beauty. When I mentioned that I was getting this camera last week I had not realized that I was getting it from another rff member. I had originally talked to the gentleman on another forum. Thank you b1bmsgt for the wonderful job you did on this camera. It looks brand new and everything is working perfectly.

I knew that the battery was going to be an issue and when the camera arrived I went directly to Radio Shack and picked up a 23-469- 6 volt battery. It is smaller in both length and od than the original mercury cell but I had a plan. I just got finished making my battery adapter and it works like a champ. I used some 5/8ths" bar stock and turned the od down just a smigeon ( smigeon = .025 or there about) on the lathe. I bored the id out to .498" with a .250" depth. It is about .6" in length. After a little smoothing and cutting a piece of heat shrink for the outside it now just fits into the battery well and extends the battery length to the proper size. I have a roll of C-41 asa 400 B&W in it and tomorrow I will shoot the first roll.

I'm jazzed. 😀

Try those shutter speeds out! I test mine by holding my hand over the light sensor and activating the shutter, then moving my hand a bit and doing it again, etc. I like to hear the shutter speeds change from a nice slow speed to a much faster one. I have several GSN's that don't work properly. One has the speed indicator lights working, but the shutter speeds themselves do not.

Very cool that you could make your own adapter! I suspect it will work just fine.

I bought one of the adapters for the camera I gave away but I didn't want to wait for another one. All it has to do is make contact with the negative pole of the battery, not short to the screw on lid which is the positive pole and keep the battery from moving around. Mine does all of the above and cost me 20 minutes in the shop. And is made out of metal, not plastic.

I shot a "camera and coffee" shot with it last night with the Leica IIIa as the subject. I intentionally set the f-stop lower than the meter wanted to see and it made about a 1/2 sec exposure as compared to the much quicker one it made when I shot as the meter indicated. I think the shutter is fine. I will know for sure today after I finish off the roll .

Yes, it sounds like your shutter is fine. Default speed for a non-working metering system on these cameras is 1/500th of a second, so if you are getting something that sounds even remotely like 1/2 of a second, I suspect you're fine.

Oops. I forgot to mention that I checked the default speed before I put the battery in. 🙄

By the way on another topic. I just tried to look at the photos for the pop photo contest and got a "you need a password message".

Huh?

You can't look at them via the Gallery. You can only see the twelve finalists, and you can only see that on the thread marked "Let the Winner Be Chosen." Which is where you can also vote. If you feel you must.

Yeah, I figured it out. Thanks.
