Yashica 35 (old-skool)

I opened my front door last night and found someone had left a baby there! This one is a Yashica 35, introduced to the world in around 1958. It has the f/2.8 lens. Slow speeds are sticky as anything and there is an annoying crack in the viewfinder, but a quick trip to the camera doctor will have it good as new!

The rangefinder is dead on. Build quality is good (not quite as good as the Canon P, but not far) and the size is lovely, fits the hand really well. Again, about the same as the Canon P.

I can't wait to get this one fixed up, cleaned up and ready to be used again.

Make sure you give it a loving home and bring it up in true black and white traditions in-line with it's cultural origins

I shall. And while I'm at it, I shall do the same for my girlfriend's Yashica J (which she won't use - she has no meter and can't or won't do Sunny-16!)

Quite a pair, the lenses are pretty much the same so I will go and have fun with those

You could get her a nice hand held meter for her birthday or Christmas pressie. Then if she still doesn't use it you get a handheld as well

Now there's a thought! Actually it had already crossed my mind... but don't tell her that!

She's happy using her AE1s... I think she likes the automation in them, since she can't be bothered re-learning the technical parts of photography. And even then, I suspect rangefinders won't really be her thing when she does get there! (She's a bit shy about shooting people, and she likes macro a lot)
