Hello.

I just acquired my first Yashica, the Elector 35 GS. Since I received it, I have replaced its seals and tweaked the vertical alignment of the rangefinder.

I have checked the meter and it appears to be working okay (but it could be over exposing in bright light, > 12 ev, by a ~1.5 stops, not sure yet).

I have mounted a strobe and verified that it fires on all speeds (in auto as well as in flash mode) ... except at 1/500. I assume it won't fire at that speed since the shutter blades are never fully open at this speed :-?

Also, when I press the shutter release button, the red or the yellow lights turn on when they should, and both turn off before the shutter is released. The red light is activated earlier than the yellow light (as the button is pressed). So this looks like it is okay as well.

When I wind the frame, I hear that deep loud click or a thunk that indicates the pad (Pad of Death) is also good. When I had the top off, I checked it and it hasn't gone bad or deteriorated. Looks like it was either replaced or never went bad.

Now, the problem. When I use the B shutter setting and depress the shutter release button the shutter opens, but it doesn't close as I release the shutter button. It can take anywhere from 0.5 to 5 seconds for the shutter to close after I release the shutter button. Anybody know what is going on here or what the problem is?

Thanks.
PS: I shot a role and gave it for processing. I will know in a few days how it went. Yeh!
