I was at the camera store yesterday and they showed me their new find: A Yashica Mat TLR with a Zeiss 80/3.5 planar and a strange silver and gold emblem on the viewfinder cover. In all other respects it looked exactly like a Yashica Mat. Anyone got any info on this camera? It was priced around $500. Kinda want it.

Maybe those Ukrainian "Leica" makers got bored one day after engraving all those Zorki 1 and Fed 1 cameras and making a ton of faux LTM Zeiss f1.5 Sonnars and decided to work their magic on the lens beauty ring of that Yashica TLR.

I've thought about doing this to a Minolta Autocrd- put a Planar from a Rolleiflex in it. But the 3.5 Planars in Rolleis are 75mm focal length, not 80.
The only way to confirm things would be to track down Zeiss serial numbers, and also remove both lens groups to see if there is a serial number on the back group, typical for Zeiss, I believe.
It is possible to move lenses around. The '00' size of Compur shutter block is the same as the Copal shutters in many cases. Here's a Minolta with a Compur shutter and 1938 Tessar-
Actually a very nice lens, and the Autocord is a nice body design. A little sloppy but I bet if I had a working Autocord shutter I could have simply pus the lens in place and replaced the cover.
Oneo ther thing to check is the outside diameter of Tessar lenses. The Roleiflex 3.5 Planar (which is 75mm, not 80) takes a Bay II filter size, but I don't know how much this is because of a wider diameter.
By the way, did the emblem look like the one is this photo?

If so, that's the initial Yashica-mat emblem. Almost always paired with the Lumaxar lenses. Actually a nice color combo, and the mustard stripes on the aperture and shutter wheels combined with green leather make for a sharp looking camera.

Oooo! A 80/3.5 Zeiss Planar?? Hmmmmm... Must be a custom order to Zeiss AG by an oil sheikh or a Russian oligarch... and to land on a lowly Yashica Mat?? Very believable..
