I've seen several Nikon rangefinder cameras in which the view through the viewfinder has a slight yellow tint. Is this normal, or does it indicate the need for the optics to be cleaned or refurbished?

The rangefinder patch is yellow/gold, in part to improve contrast. The overall view is tinted slightly green in an S2 to also improve contrast. There usually is no tint in the overall fullsize image on an S3/SP.
There is also an anti-reflection coating on the S3 and S4. It looks equivalent to a coated L39 filter, and will cut out some blue.
The S2's, and Vince stated, are geen tinted. I've never noticed a tint in the others that is really different from the Leica's or Canon's.
