hello to all! 🙂

just bought my first Canonet G-III QL17 at an *bay auction!

it's a black one! 😀

price was very high, but the seller assured that the camera was recently overhauld and working properly!

Congradulations and welcome!

I just got mine and I'm working on my first roll. But I do love the thing; it's very hard to put down. I've never seen a black one so please post a pict!

Heh, the black ones take better pictures too!😀 😀

I've got a QL17 (Not GIII) Black one too, and it is a really nice user. enjoy and please post some pics when you have them developed!

hi all,

got my black G-III QL17, but the camera is in an very used state. 🙁

but here some of the facts:
  • serial number: A06491 (any infos available?)
  • lens seems to be ok, no scratches or dust, there was a UV filter mounted
  • body has some scratches and wear, but no bumps
  • the lower seal is completely gone
  • self-timer does not work, stopped half of the way
  • shutter seems to work properly
  • the viewfinder has some dust inside
  • the patch is nearly invisible
  • the focus ring needs some force to move, especially at the infinite end
  • the lever and the film transport mechanism work fine
  • battery check does not work, but there seems to be an alkaline inside
  • the lens is wobbling in the mount
I would like to a CLA, but I'm living in Germany, so does anybody know someone in Germany who is possible to do this kind of work?

Back when I was in college, a real status symbol back then was to have a "black press model" of about anything, worn just enough for the brassing to start showing through. 🙂

[*]the lower seal is completely gone

(shamelessplug) You need to talk to Jon Goodman about his light seal kit. (/shamelessplug)

[*]self-timer does not work, stopped half of the way

You've all heard of "value-added features", I'm sure. Well, on this camera (on most of them), the self timer is a perfect example of a value-subtracted feature. 🙁

[*]the patch is nearly invisible

If a simple cleaning doesn't help, there's a trick that some do which involves putting a small dot of opaque paint or tape right in the center of the front viewfinder window. This will make the patch brighter by comparison.

[*]the lens is wobbling in the mount

They tell me (who is "they" anyway?) that this is normal. Mine does it. Many others report it. Mine does not seem to be getting worse. Yours probably will not either.

In any case, you have a very nice camera there, and please post some samples from it. 🙂

hi dmr,

thanks for your detailed response!

I have contacted greyhoundman and Kim Coxon asking for a price for a CLA, but greyhoundman answered that shipping to the USA may be a little bit expensive and Kim Coxon didn't answer at all. I will search for Jon here in the forum.

ASAP I get the sealing fixed I will shot my first roll of film since many years! I hope my little Olympus E-500 DSLR will not get jealous! 😉

Hi,
I am away from home at the moment so only have limited access. Bearing in mind the what the seller said, this is not a camera that "was recently overhauled and working properly!" :bang:

Rather than paying for a service, I would get a refund and try to buy one that is working.

Kim
