I was looking at that lens too, as the Canon original is quite expensive, even used.
If you read through the user reviews on B&H and Amazon, you'll find just what you would expect to find. They look outwardly the same, but are completely different electronically and optically.
My solution was just to put out an ebay search for the original Canons and get one when one shows up with the right price.
