Does anyone have an M9 and and M5? I'd love to see them next to each other. Just for giggles and all.
There was such a stink about the size and all and I'm thinking the M9 might be just about as tall and perhaps a little less long, but thicker I think.
Anyone have both? Anyone? Ferris? Bueller?

I'd say that what each feels like in the hands is all that's important.

I do not disagree. But way back when the M5 came out it was called lots of nasty names and was not well received by many M users because of it's size. Never mind the interesting changes in the user interface (dial for shutter speeds, bottom rewind).
I'd just like to see it.
I'm not sure I would be as in love with holding the M9 because of the lack of wind lever. Though this is easy to fix with one of those thumb thingies.

The best camera is one that still works!

I've never really quite related to the need for a thumbs up to replace the advance lever on the digital M ... but then I've never hooked my thumb under the advance lever on any of my film cameras when using them!
I miss my M5 ... it felt great in the hands.

I have used an M8 occasionally and missed the advance lever, a thumps up might have been helpful for me.
About the M5 .... it felt great in my hands too.

That would be Ned Bojic (NB23) from memory? ... hell of a photographer but created some ruckus here.
I miss him ... he was OK in my book because he always backed up his challenging rethoric with excellent images!

Your memory serves you right, Keith.
Ned, hell of a photographer, inspiring and encouraging.

I did when I was trying to use my Ms with one hand (the other for off camera flash). I've learned the Contax/Nikon approach works much better, at least for me. Though the throw of the lenses is much longer.

The M9 is the same dimensions as the M8 The M8 is exactly the same as the M6TTL, just 2 mm thicker. The main problem of the M5 were not the dimensions, but the loss of the step in the top plate, which made for a completely different "look"of the camera, that was not accepted by the market. As Leica has been smart enough to put an MP type of step on the M9 it has made the form more acceptable to the luddite part of their customer base compared to the M8.
