I expect to be at the announcement in New York next Wednesday.

What I would like to know from forum members is what 3 questions you would ask of the Leica reps there. I will collect them, cull them and if no one else asks them at the event I will try to get the answers to a few of them and relay them here and on my website. I ask for no more than three just to keep things manageable. Of course, there's no guarantee I'll be able to ask these questions but I will try.

Clearly the basics will be announced, so I don't mean things like basic specs and it would be helpful if you spare me the generally amusing wise-a** remarks that we all ordinarily love. Just trying to be practical here and not clog the thread. No offense intended to anyone.

I realize it's highly speculative at this point but I would suggest focusing on the M9 that seems to be the object of this announcement and maybe the X1 in case it's real (who knows, by the time I post this there may be some juicy leak that firms this up or knocks it down).

Larger, long-term questions about Leica, its future, its place in the market, things like that would be great. I read this forum a good deal and it's always a reminder of how much expertise and insight there is among Leica users and how little I know.

So please think big, think small, think smart.

THANK YOU ALL!

Will there be viewfinder magnification options.

Will there be a future update option as with the M8.

What technologies allowed for a full frame sensor.

Will Leica offer any yet-unannounced Micro Four Thirds lenses?

Will Leica produce another series of 'more affordable' lenses like the Summarit-M series?

Will Leica produce a new film rangefinder, i.e., an update to the M7 and/or MP?

Was the upgrade program and claims about the M8's modular design just smoke to cover up bad press about the camera? Can we expect similar claims in the future?

Oh one more im sure one or two people are thinking about:

Will Infrared filters be necessary for this camera?

M9:

What hardware, ie. sensor, electronics..etc. are upgradeable?

How is sensor dust addressed?

Is the viewfinder easier to use with glasses? Is it at least a viewfinder on par with the latest Ikon?

This is sort of like analyzing the print before the picture is taken.

One might wait to hear the details of Leica's communication first.

Now given that the usefulness of these threads is somewhat decreasing, let's not limit ourselves to useful questions. (Moreover since we actually don't know anything about what will be announced.) How about this one:

How much did you pay your numerologist for figuring out that 9/9/9 in the Gregorian calendar (iterated digit sum 9) corresponds to day 1430/9/19 in the Islamic calendar (iterated digit sum 9), Julian date 2455083 (iterated digit sum 9), and day 252 of the year (iterated digit sum 9)?

On the advice of your numerologist, does it mean any bad forebodings for your customers in the Middle East or in Latin America that in the Hebrew calendar day 5769/6/20 and Iranian calendar day 1388/6/18 both have iterated digit sum 8, or that day 12.19.12.12.1 in the Mayan Long Count has iterated digit sum 2? Does it mean that they are stuck with M8s and M2s, respectively?

I guess you mean questions regarding the M9?

1. Will the M9 have in-camera cyan-corner correction (UV+IR) so one can use their M8 alongside the M9 without needing to screw and unscrew IR filters when changing lenses between them?

2. Will the M9 take the same battery or at least the same charger, or would using an M8 and M9 require two sets of each?

3. Is it still only a 2-year non-Passport warranty?

When can we unwrap?

does leica plan to make a fixed lens, image stabilized, optical viewfinder equipped, aps-c DMD-esque camera?

does leica plan to make video capable m-mount cameras in the future?

will the m-series ever have autofocus?

I would like to find out about the possibility of a Leica Micro 4/3 rangefinder.

That would be fun!

Stephen

I'm with Stephen–will there be a low cost/entry level drf from leica in the future (if not announced at the event). M4/3, aps-c, etc. are options. Requirement is, of course, WITH OVF.
And if not, how does Leica plan to attract new users to the system in the future?

Referencing the X1;
What other projects is Leica working on that incorporates ‘hybrid architecture’?

Again, referencing the X1;
Can we expect a future FF version with a newly designed mount to accommodate AF lenses?

On a scale from 1-10, rate Leica’s future commitment to ‘hybrid architecture’.

Is the M9.x the last camera that Leica will design that incorporates the use of a traditional, mechanical rangefinder?
If the answer is NO, then - What’s the release date for the M10?

Only two questions.

1. What is the future of the M8 platform, if any?

2. Will there be an extended batter, say resembling a leicavit in design?
