I know it's a weird subject, but I have to say my Nikon F2AS is easily my best smelling camera. It smells like an old leather bound book for reasons I can't even begin to understand.

My Leica M9, X2, and M4-2 cameras are fitted with A&A half cases, which makes them all smell very nice.
The Sonnar 150mm f/4 lens for my Hasselblad 500CM came from someone who obviously smoked a lot ... It stank when I got it. I left it sitting on the living room table for a week or two, letting the sun bathe it, to eliminate the stink.

I hope you archive your first draft responses so one day you can publish them: I know you self-censor to keep things flowing, but taken away from any possible conflict, the first impulse is usually at least interesting.Fascinating!
On camera smells, this is a surprisingly well discussed "feature" of FSU cameras, where rancid oil is usually blamed. I would similarly suggest that lubricant is likely to account for pleasant smells: not much else in a camera is volatile.

I've only had one camera with a noticeably nice smell, a used Contax IIIa I bought as a kid. I put it down to the real leather (or so I assumed) covering.

My Best smelling camera was my first Leica M body, a well-used chrome M4. I bought it from an elderly arty man, and it smelled of cigarettes. I imagined him using it in smoky jazz clubs, and hoped that some of that romance and karma would rub off on me. (It didn't... ;-)
