I know some of you have multiple formats so this is as good a place to ask as any. Has anyone used this combination 21 C Biogon and Sony NEX...in particular with the newer Sony NEX's - the NEX-5N and NEX-3C? I am curious about the colored edges...if its still there.

Good questions and worth another try now that the new NEXs are being distributed.

SLR Gear tested the ZM 21/2.8 on an NEX-5. Performance with that combination was nothing to write home about.
The ZM 21/4.5 has a nodal point that is much closer to the image plane, so I'd expect it to be worse. Not to say it won't provide usable images, but my guess is that (especially in the corners) a kit zoom would blow the C-Biogon it into the weeds on an NEX sensor.

Wow.. their kit lenses are horrible. I was aware of the 35mm performance on the first generation NEX ( I think that the f/2.0 Biogon bested the f/2.8C), but bumped the thread in the hopes that someone has a 5n and might provide some direct information.

OK.. So being a good RFF member, I purchased the 5N, just to post this photo. Warning... I haven't a clue what I'm doing. Battery wasn't even fully charged and I had to use the puny on camera flash.
Zeiss 21mm f/4.5 ZM Compact EI:640 F/8.0 Converted to DNG Developed in Aperture
Processing... adjusted exposure and brought up shadows a bit. Added exposure peripherally.
This is a very poor selection for posting, but it does show that this lens can provide sharp images.

Doesn't look too bad to me.

The ZM 21/4.5 is not entirely usable on the Nex-5, but it shines again on the Nex-5N! I have seen posting about purple corners, but haven't been able to reproduce that on the 5N...

I have the Nex-5R. Pictures with white Backgrounds are critical on every Aperture. There are magenta Corners. The Nex-5N was better.
B&W is still great with vignetting.
