I am considering the Zeiss 35mm 2.8 as a first autofocus lens for street photography. I currently own a 35mm Nokton 2.8 V1 and a 35mm Summicron V4. Although these lenses are great, especially the Nokton, I must have autofocus for street photography. Zooming in or focus peaking just does not cut it for the decisive moment. Putting that aside, I am most interested in image quality comparisons between the Zeiss 35mm f2.8 and the Nokton 1.2 as well as the 35mm Summicrons. I am assuming I am not doing the camera justice and need at least one lens designed for it. So who owns the 35mm 2.8 Zeiss and what do you think? I welcome all of your samples and input on this.

The Sony Zeiss is a bit soft at the corners at F2.8, but you will find that it's still a great performer, in fact optically superior to the older Leica 35mms and only slightly worse than the 35lux ASPH at F2.8. On center the performance is certainly world-class, bitingly sharp even wide open.
Colorwise it is rich, contrasty and largely inherits the "look" of the 35mm Biogon, if there is such a thing as lens rendering...
On the whole a nice, compact, modern lens. I like it, but AF isn't my thing.

the zeiss 35 E mount is fine--the best 35 you can put on the A7, with the possible exception of the Leica FLE, or maybe some SLR or other.

Do you have any other option than the 35/2.8 then?I must have autofocus for street photography.

If you have a peek on my blog, I've done a review of the 35 FE Sonnar. Its a cracking lens but not perfect. At 'best apertures' the 35mm 1.2 Nokton II is IMO the fractionally better lens, but at five times the weight and without AF.
If you need an AF 35mm lens for the A7R its a no brainer....

I believe this is a 'must have lens' in the A7 FE system.
