Somewhere I read that the zeiss bumps can be removed from the original Zeiss leather(ette).

Anybody know of a source that explains how?

Colyn, I used to own several Contax cameras and was successful at removing the Zeiss bumps. Carefully peal off the leater. You don't have to go any further than the bumps. Clean the green crud which is what the bumps are made of. Denatured alcohol will clean the shellac off the metal-the shellac was used to originally hold the leather. A couple of coats of enamel on the rivet heads, shellac the metal, and press the leather onto the tacky shellac. The bumps will be 95% gone. Stu

Stu has it right. There is no magic to removing these bumps. The leather on the prewar Contax is thicker than the leather on the postwar Contax and easier to remove. Start at a corner and take your time.

If you check out my site, you can see how well it worked on the Super Nettel.

I've removed bumps from scores of cameras. It's very simple.
