This week my Zeiss Ikon Contessa 35 finally arrived and I realized that what this quote from CameraQuest was indeed accurate:
"The pictures really don't do the camera justice. You really have to see one in great condition to appreciate its high quality finish. Be careful though. If you do, you may never look at a modern camera quite in the same way again."
This was an impulse purchase of eBay at what still seems like a bargain at $62.
The whole kit that arrived consisted of:
Quite a few accessories (the larger leather bag has a number of internal pockets - including four filter pouches that came filled with original filters in various colours. Neat.
The camera itself is fantastic condition, here are some mandatory porn photos of it...:
It also came with an original slip-on hood. Although you can't fold and close the camera with the hood on - it still sure looks nice:
Got a roll of Tri-X loaded in the camera and am looking forward to running the first roll through it this weekend. The Tessar lens is rumoured to be quite a good performer.
From a handlings perspective it's definetively a different beast to what I'm used to but won't comment on that quite yet.
As mentioned the camera design is gorgeous and it has some neat little features, like this extendable 'stand' that allows the camera to stand up on a flat surface:
Not sure if I will be trying out any flash photography with this kit - but if I do, this is how it would look like:
I'll write up a more comprehensive 'review' of the camera once I've tried it out for a few days and if you're interested you can read it here: Batteries Not Included
