Are there any concerns when using Zeiss- Ikon lenses on Leica M cameras? I thought I read somewhere that there was an image reduction factor of 1.5.
I'm getting some renewed interest in my RF and would like to know what other lenses will work.

You must be messing ZF (zeiss Nikon F mount) lenses with Zeiss ikon lenses, if you mount ZF 50mm lens on Nikon digital body you will have 1.5 crop factor, or you could be talking about Epson digital rangefinder with 1.6 crop factor?

Refering to these

No I'm refering to these http://www.zeissikon.com/. I've been shooting digital sine 1992, Air Force, and know all about the extension factor. I thought I read somewhere on the web that there was a similar effect using some other manufacturers lenses on M RFs.

Well maybe I answered my own Question since I read it on the web.

Anyone care top comment on the quality of Carl Zeiss T* ZM-mount lenses?

Well, both of them Zeiss Ikon body and Leica M body take 35mm film which means there is no crop difference, So I am sure there is no problem mounting ZM lenses on any Leica M body. As for quality of M lenses, I have them and I love them, I don`t have or had leica lenses so I can not compair..

Thanks, now we'll just have to wait and see if anyone out there will be putting 6 bit encoding on second party lenses for the M8.

The Zeiss ZM lens will mount , focus perfectly and bring up the proper frame lines on an Leica M body.

Zeiss lenses used to have a slightly different optical signature, but very nice.

M8 Sensor Conversion - 35mm equivalents.

There is a 1.3X crop factor for the M8 for lenses from Leica, Zeiss or any other M mount lenses. I just made a web page with a table of conversion at http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~keirst/LeicaM8Sensor.html to show what the M8 equivalent in 35mm horizontal view will be for most standard focal lengths.
