Hi,
so I got my new ZI and was wondering about the meter sensitivity pattern.
After a few rolls of film I worry less when using film, most of the exposures are spot on
, the rest is me not thinking about metering
.
But I inquired with Zeiss anyway and got the meter pattern sent.
Here is an explanation for the pattern:
"Due to the position of the metering cell the area of peak sensitivity is slightly off-axis and shifted to the lower left. This is intended to reduce the influence of bright sky both in horizontal and vertical (right hand up) frames."

Not really............
But I sold my M2 and a Canon IVbS to make room for the ZI
So you could have known......
BTW I am very happy with the ZI. i am a big fan of AP exposure mode and it is done right with the ZI. On Saturday I will check out a M7 (be forewarned PN) to get a rough comparison.

I wish I hadn't seen that. Now I'll be worrying about the pattern being off center.
Although, I would say that the ZI meter has been excellent so the meter and I get along very well.

You probably worry even more about the RF/viewfinder which is much further away from the optical centre than the metering pattern.

Sorry but thats just a bit of spin. The meter patern of some of the Bessas is off center purely because they couldnt engineer it otherwise. The ZI is supposed to be a bit closer to center than the earlier Bessas though. Personally I think perfect center is best especially for using exposure lock facility but as others have noted they havent found it to be a problem.

I don't worry about the viewfinder, I just don't need the off center compensation for the metering. I know how to do that myself. However, as I said, the ZI has proven to be excellent with regards to metering so I will try to forget the off center part.Mazurka said:You probably worry even more about the RF/viewfinder which is much further away from the optical centre than the metering pattern.![]()

Wow, now I know why i've missed some shots. I've been wondering what the pattern is for some time. Thanks for the heads-up on the info.
