I bought a new zi sometime ago and never used it. now i got it out and
i have noticed that when focussing, images do not align ( like my Ms ), but
in a way i have not ecperienced before and the results are out of focus.

e.g. if i try to focus on the letter ' I ' the two images align one on top of the other..i.e. one ' I ' bottom starts where the other ' I ' top starts.

Hope I am making sense, if not you can be sure that I too am very confused.

Any advice shall be gratefully accepted.

Thank you.

You make sense. Your camera's R/F has bad vertical alignment. If it's slightly off, generally there is no problem: but your description suggests that it is too badly off. Unless another member knows how to set it right on a ZI, you'll need the services of a professional.

[edit] The words "the results are out of focus" suggest that there may be other problems also.

It sounds like your rf is out of alignment. Zeiss service is excellent. You can call them on +49 736 420 6175 and ask for Camera Support and Service. Most of the staff seem to speak very good English and are very helpful.

Also, the website has a section for suport and you can download the standard service and repair letters and get information from the website:

When you have it properly adjusted the camera is an absolute joy. Mine was fine bought second hand until I dropped it (hard). Zeiss adjusted the rf, checked the body and checked and adjusted the focus on two lenses for what seemed to me a very reasonable price (barely more than I paid to post the body to them via international courier).

Hope that helps,

Mike

+1 on excellent service from Zeiss.
I have sent back a Biogon 2.8/25mm from the Seattle area. They did the repair/adjustment seemingly the day the lens arrived for the cost of postage. Even though I had no warranty remaining. You have a vertical alignment issue as has been stated before me. Easy fix and one that may need repeating if the camera takes a hard knock in the future.

I would not send the camera away for an adjustment just because the square rangefinder patch does not align correctly. Make a test of the camera to see if this really has any ill effect. I notice that my Leica MP has a similar symptom. Still it is one of my sharpest shooting cameras. So, don't get hysterical.

Mike, Andy, Olson,martin...

Appreciate you folks taking the time to read and provide your valued
suggestions.

Thank you.
